FERN NECKLACE Sterling Silver

€150.00

The word ‘fern’ comes from the Anglo Saxon word ‘fearn’, which means ‘feather’ and refers to the feather-like shape and pattern of a fern’s leaves.

Fern’s do not reproduce using flowers and seeds, as most other plants do. Instead, they reproduce by releasing microscopic spores that are made underneath the leaves. These spores can travel for hundreds of miles on air currents and start new generations of ferns hundreds of miles away from where they began.

It takes two generations of ferns to complete their life cycle, so some cultures associate them with family and hope for the future. Ferns also traditionally symbolise happiness, longevity and prosperity. They are mentioned in works by Shakespeare, Hans Christian Andersen and Ben Johnson and fossils show that they appeared on Earth millions of years before the dinosaurs. A pretty amazing plant really, and one we couldn’t resist turning into a Wild & Fine design!
