The Wilderness Wedding

The coronavirus pandemic has put a lot of events and activities on hold, but one of the worst affected sectors has been the wedding industry. Couples who have devoted time and energy to planning the perfect day with their friends and family have either had to curtail their dreams and ambitions or put proceedings on ice indefinitely. This has had a knock-on effect on the business of venue hire companies, florists, photographers, caterers, dressmakers, jewellers and wedding planners. With no clear end date for restrictions to be lifted, many are having to close, cut back or diversify until normality resumes.

We’ve had a think at Wild & Fine Towers and decided that the only way to plan a pandemic-proof wedding is opt for an outdoor ceremony with a small selection of your most favourite people. If the experience of lockdown has taught us anything, it is to appreciate the natural world and the therapy it has provided while all other playgrounds have been closed to us. And what better way to celebrate the great outdoors than by getting married in it?

The logistics of an outdoor wedding (and the potential for bad weather) can be off-putting, but in the current climate of uncertainty a rain shower, gusting wind or the possibility of an unseasonal heat wave may seem like eventualities that are easier to contend with than navigating the restrictions of a ceremony in an enclosed space during a pandemic. Plus, you never know, you may get lucky and get the perfect conditions to celebrate your marriage in your favourite outdoor space, and what could be more perfect than that?

If you are planning your wedding and are thinking of taking proceedings to the great outdoors, will you chose a flower garden, a woodland, a beach, a mountainside or a festival-themed field? We admit to a healthy dose of bias, but we think that Wild & Fine designs are the perfect finishing touch for an outdoor wedding. Whether you gift your bridesmaids rosebud hoop earrings for your flower garden wedding or accessorise the groomsmen’s outfits with starfish cufflinks for your ocean-side ceremony, our designs are inspired by the same great outdoors that motivates you and fine jewellery is a lasting reminder of your day (not the throwaway accessory that fashion jewellery can be).

We have put together some ideas for three of our favourite outdoor wedding ideas; the Beach Wedding, the Wilderness Woodland Wedding and the Flower Garden Wedding. We hope you enjoy exploring these possibilities as much as we enjoyed researching them and if you would like to get in touch about have Wild & Fine designs at your wedding, you can email Jess directly here.  She hand makes all wedding commissions to order, so don’t be afraid to ask for custom extras, such as the addition of birth stone charms or precious stones that have special relevance to you and your partner.

THE BEACH WEDDING

If you or your partner were brought up on the coast, or if the beach plays an important role in the story of your life together so far, a seaside wedding may be the best wilderness wedding option. Seascapes certainly make for beautiful backdrops for photographs and if you prefer flipflops to skyscraper heels, you can enjoy the romance of the setting without feeling like it is cramping your style.

THE WILDERNESS WOODLAND WEDDING

Are you and your partner more woodland adventurers than beach-dwellers? Find a secluded spot in an ancient forest to say ‘I do’. Whether you chose to go for an entirely open-air event or look for an open-sided cabin or yurt, a woodland venue offers a rustic setting for your wedding that your guests are sure to remember.

THE FLOWER GARDEN WEDDING

The ideal half-way house between a conventional wedding and a wilderness ceremony, a flower garden provides the beauty of nature in a more curated fashion than a woodland or a beach. Be brave and opt for a fully open-air ceremony or provide a bit of protection from the elements by arranging for an open-sided marquee or gazebo to be pitched in your favourite garden venue. Talk to the gardener at the venue to establish which flowers will be in bloom when you want to get married, so that you have the option co-ordinate wedding party accessories with your natural backdrop for your ceremony.
